A milestone in sustainable development

L'Oréal Group announced a collaboration with carbon recycling company LanzaTech and energy company Total to launch the world's first cosmetic plastic packaging bottle made from captured and recycled carbon emissions, a milestone in sustainable development.

This innovative plastic packaging bottle is made by converting carbon monoxide from industrial waste gas into ethanol, then converting ethanol into ethylene, and finally polymerizing ethylene into polyethylene (PE). This PE has the same performance and quality as PE made from fossil resources, but can reduce dependence on fossil resources and greenhouse gas emissions.

L'Oréal Group said that this innovative plastic packaging bottle is an important step towards achieving its carbon neutrality goal, and the group plans to have at least 50% of its plastic packaging bottles made from recycled plastic by the end of 2023. L'Oréal Group also said that it will continue to work with LanzaTech and Total to develop more plastic packaging materials based on captured and recycled carbon emissions to meet the needs of its different brands and product lines.
